- Compliance Officer
Description
Maine Public Employees Retirement System (MainePERS) seeks a Compliance Officer to join our Legal department. This position develops, implements, and maintains a compliance program that ensures MainePERS complies with applicable legal and regulatory requirements and Board policies and that MainePERS employees comply with applicable standards of conduct.
Responsibilities include:
- Developing, implementing and managing the organization’s compliance program.
- Acting as a resource senior management and business units rely on for depth and breadth of expertise regarding compliance issues.
- Maintaining knowledge of applicable federal and state legal and regulatory requirements, Board policies, and standards of conduct.
- Staying apprised of new and proposed legal and regulatory requirements and providing updates to senior management as appropriate.
- Recommending, drafting, revising, and assisting with implementation of policies, practices, and processes to enhance compliance.
- Monitoring, measuring, and reporting on the organization’s adherence to applicable requirements.
- Working with business units on identifying and appropriately addressing compliance vulnerabilities and operational risks.
- Drafting and distributing compliance communications.
- Working with Human Resources to develop and provide compliance guidance to staff.
- Working with MainePERS staff as resource on risk management matters.
- Serving as coordinator knowledgeable in System policies, practices and procedures related to appeals.
The anticipated starting salary is typically near the minimum of the pay range. Initial placement within the range will be determined based on the successful candidate's relevant education, experience, skills, and other job-related qualifications.

Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or more advanced degree in accounting, business, finance, law or other related field
Preferred Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor degree
- Three to five years’ experience in regulatory, tax or legal compliance
- Knowledge of laws and regulations applicable to public pension plans
